Call me whatever names you wish, but I think this is a much better (and healthier) attitude than “anyone under 18 should never be allowed to see any sexual imagery ever”
(For reference: this was at the Tom of Finland exhibition, containing actual, queer, kinky af pornography. There were definitely some young people there, perhaps in their late teens. There was even a parent with their baby who was probably too young to understand anything at all. And guess what, all those people are probably going to be fine.)
[ID: a sign saying “Please note: there is no age limit, but the exhibition is not recommended for children due to the explicit sexual imagery it contains. Parental or guardian discretion is advised.”]

Gee, Tumblr would probably really hate it if you shared and spread this damning article … To the surprise of absolutely none of Tumblr’s LGBTQ users, it turns out the independent NYC human rights agency Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) found that Tumblr’s ham-fisted adult content ban in December 2018 disproportionately targeted LGBTQ users. The CCHR’s investigation revealed Tumbler’s moderation algorithms is demonstrably biased against queer content. As part of the settlement, Tumblr was obligated to review their prejudicial anti-gay moderation policies. Even more mortifyingly, they’ve also had to hire an expert on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) issues and provide unconscious bias training to their moderators. I frankly doubt Tumblr has learned a thing from this humbling experience. Just recently the Tumblr algorithm flagged three ancient posts of mine as violating their terms. All three “offenders” were vintage homoerotic beefcake images (softcore by modern standards) roughly 50 – 65-years-old by Bruce of Los Angeles, Bob Mizer and Tom of Finland. (These are of course pioneering queer artists who routinely faced censorship and imprisonment in the fifties and sixties. Plus ca change!). They’ve been visible on my page - corrupting viewers - for years at this point. I appealed all three immediately. Only the Tom of Finland one was approved. The other two are now hidden. So, they haven’t learned much. Apparently, Tumblr – who loves to declare how hip, youthful, inclusive and progressive their values are - wants to restore trust with their queer users. I’d recommend we remember their hypocrisy when Pride rolls around and Tumblr splashes rainbow flags everywhere and attempts to pink wash their image.
In honour of Pride Month, this is worth a reblog! Don’t buy into Tumblr’s hypocritical “pink washing.”
I think this article should be shared. But don’t overlook this part:
The deal appears to have happened largely because of WordPress.com owner Automattic, which acquired Tumblr from Verizon in 2019 and apparently cooperated closely with the CCHR. “I think that was a turning point in the investigation,” says CCHR attorney Alberto Rodriguez. Automattic had revised the original system to add more human oversight even before the settlement. Under its ownership, Tumblr has also attempted to reconcile with LGBTQ users that departed as part of a larger community exodus.
Automattic bought tumblr, and immediately started to try to undo the mistakes of the past but are blocked by a sex-negative and LGBT-hating world.

all of those funeral options like the tree pod or mushroom shroud or urn with seeds that “feeds” the tree are uhhhh, bullshit. unfortunately. if you want to be a tree when you die, be buried in the ground without a francy casket or embalming, and have a tree planted above you. this is the same thing as any of these hypothetical “tree pods” but it’s skipping the scammy cash grab companies trying to capitalize on grief with fake ass science.
cremated remains will not “feed” anything, either. they’ll probably impede growth, tbh. cremated remains are non-organic. what’s left over after a cremation is hollow, dry, brittle bone fragments that someone like me sweeps up and puts in a big metal blender to create the smooth “ashes” one expects. By all means, go ahead and scatter ashes in nature, but don’t expect anything to grow from them.
If you want your body to return to nature after death, go for a green burial or an at-sea burial. there are many dedicated green burial sites in the world, and one also has the option of simply being buried in a more traditional cemetery that allows for simple wicker caskets w/o a vault around them, and the body left unembalmed. If the tree thing is really your jam, go for burial in a dedicated green cemetery that allows your family to plant a sapling above you, or if it is available where you live have your body composted and use the soil to grow plants.
tldr; there are options for green funerals out there, and options for “becoming a tree,” but I would not recommend going anywhere near products offering this such as tree pods, etc. as they are expensive scams preying on people’s grief for their dumb start up. get composted or green buried 💚🌲 source: I’m a mortuary scientist and provider of both traditional funerals/cremations & green burial/at-sea burial.

Please.
Folks, seriously.
PLEASE.
Do not - and I can’t emphasize this enough - set the state on fire this weekend.
Fire danger is abnormally high this holiday weekend.
URGING you to consider firework alternatives:
- screaming “bang! boom!” at the sky
- dropping a stack of large books on the floor
- wrapping a toga around a candle
- play America the Beautiful while combining Coke and Mentos

This is literally how immunodeficiency would present. In clinical practice, we we want to screen for the possibility of an undiagnosed underlying immunodeficiency syndrome, “how many respiratory infections do you get in an average year?” and “have you had pneumonia more than once?” are the 2 first questions we ask. There’s been more pneumonias among my healthy adult friends & acquaintances in the last 6 months than among my immunosuppressed patients in the last 6 years. Something is clearly off. And healthy adults with pneumonia is not a viral transmission dynamics issue. This thread blew up and some people aren’t sure if I’m suggesting immunity debt. Definitely not. Staying healthy doesn’t make you sick, pathogens do. As for the immunity “gap”, it’s likely a contributing factor but doesn’t explain adults with pneumonia. It’s SARS2 I’m worried about.

hey, the pandemic is not over. wear a mask.
in case this is unclear, immunocompromised, immunosuppressed, and other disabled people are not getting sick the same way as healthy adults because they are masking the fuck up and/or still largely being forced to isolate, while many many “healthy” adults are not. just because you are healthy doesn’t mean you are immune to long-term effects from covid. anyone can become disabled at any time. immunity debt is not real.
do your part to protect yourself and others. not wearing a mask is worse than ableism. It’s disablist.
Please at least wear masks in public indoor, and crowded outdoor spaces. Make public spaces safe and accessible for everyone.
For those unsure what the immunity dept thing is supposed to mean in this context: Basically people assume “My immune system is like a muscle. It has not been ‘trained’ during the pandemic and therefore it’s now picking up all these bugs to make up for it and will get toned again. In no time it will be as strong as before.” Thus, getting infections now would not be dangerous, but even beneficial.
I believe the more correct metaphor a researcher used was a rolodex: Your immune system doesn’t forget. If it finds the virus in its rolodex, it will kill it, ideally before you even get sick. It doesn’t really care if the rolodex entry was made 2 or 10 years ago, thus getting less new entries in the rolodex during the pandemic doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. Sure you might pick up some stuff now you would have had 2 years ago, had the pandemic not happened, but that doesn’t mean your immune system is weaker. (Don’t know about the factor of time in the whole thing, but that was the overall message.)
HOWEVER, then why are more people getting more sick? The answer is Covid. Having a Covid infection harms your organs and your immune system and therefore makes you more prone to become sick in the future from all manner of viruses. And we don’t know yet if and how fleeting this effect is.
Meaning, there is a worrying damage to people’s health from the pandemic, but it’s not “missing out” on the occasional flu, it’s real life damage from that virus we’ve been talking about for three years that is still going around.

You can’t cut soft cheese in thin slices or wedges because it just gets squished, but you can with hard cheese, cause the protein holds it together. Casein point:
